What type of entrepreneur are you looking for?

We are open to any type of entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs that are after seed stage on their business stage (including later, early, and expansion stage) will be ideal as the candidates.

Who should apply for this program?

– Early and Later stage entrepreneurs with market ready products or services, or who can start own business within 6 months
– This program accepts businesses from all sectors and supports all challenges
– Entrepreneurs hoping to develop own business and seeking of fundraising opportunities
– Entrepreneurs aiming to advertise own business products or services to the public through the Japanese Crowdfunding Platform and the opportunities for pitching and networking to/with the local business associations
– Potential business solutions to solve societal and environmental issues and challenges are preferred

What is the commitment required from entrepreneurs?

Entrepreneurs are required to commit to the program for the entire 7 months from July 2018 till Jan 2019. Classes and workshops will be conducted from July to September (see page 19), while entrepreneurs will have the rest of the week free to work on their business as needed. The latter half of the program which is Fundraising Program will be held from October 2018 to January 2019. Ultimately, the core focus of the program is for you to build relationships, work on your entrepreneurs and achieve your milestones.

First Selection

How is the selection process after submission of the application work?

After the documents screening, the candidates on the long list will have interview with Judges. Based on the result of the interview, will inform your acceptance by the end of June 2018.

Who should take the interview if we pass the document screening?

All members plan to attend the program are encourage to come to the interview.

Who will be the judges for the first selection?

CJCC Management Team, CIC, YEAC, JICA consultant Team and others (with Ready for from Japan)

Are there any standards for selection?

We will consider the target market, the scale and novelty of the business plan, existence of a market-ready product, and the projected profitability of your business.
Entrepreneurs who can start business within 6 months after taking business capacity development, and business scheme that has potential to solve societal and environmental issues and challenges is highly preferred. Overall, we will focus more on the applicants (entrepreneurs) themselves, such as their capability, motivation, commitment, clear vision, personal story of applicant’s own business and teamwork. We welcome team applications.

Are there conditions on age, gender, or nationality?

The applicant must be Cambodians over 20 year old, and be able to provide presentations in English. Any gender will be accepted.

Accelerator Program

What do I do while the Accelerator Program?

This part of the program consists of 1. weekly peer to peer mentoring, 2. intensive lectures, 3. pitching practice, and 4. exchange with business owners.

How many people can attend the Accelerator Program?

  1. Weekly peer to peer mentoring : Any number people can attend the meeting session
  2. Intensive lectures : Maximum three people can attend the intensive lectures from each company
  3. Pitching Practice :  Maximum three people can attend but one representative should deliver presentation
  4. Exchange with business owners : Maximum three people can attend the intensive lectures from each company

How often do we meet mentors?

It will be two hours per week for two months. However, please note that mentor engagement will run organically and depend on mentor’s availability. Sometimes, mentoring might be conducted by e-mail depend on the mentor’s availability.

Where will the intensive lectures, pitching practice and exchange with business owners be conducted?

It will be at CJCC’s office.

Where will the peer to peer mentoring be conducted?

Anywhere is fine depend on the both mentor and your availabilities

Fundraising Program (Crowdfunding Challenge)

Where will the Crowdfunding Challenge?

Preparation session for building your fundraising website will be held at CJCC’s office. After taking the session, you can also work on your website at your working space/ your home. During the fundraising period from October 2018 to January 2019, you may have some meetings with program coordinators at CJCC’s office. Lastly, during the following up period, you will have a couple of meetings with program coordinators at CJCC’s office in Cambodia to discuss about how to utilize the money raised and how to report the business progress to your investors and CJCC, or another mentoring when you fail to raise money for your business.

What is the schedule for Crowdfunding Challenge?

This challenge program will take place from October 2018 till January 2019. In October and November, you will spend most of your time on preparing online project website, and approaching your potential investors and introduce your business idea. Then December 2018 and January 2019 will be the actual fundraising period where you spread your business idea and collect money from your investors through the website. Finally in January (or February) 2019, you will finally utilized the funding. This process must be followed by reporting the business progress to investors and CJCC. The schedule is subject to change.

Fundraising Program (Pitching Opportunities)

Who will be pitching?

Qualified entrepreneurs selected in the second selection are able to have pitching opportunities with local business association.

What exactly does pitching mean?

A pitch is basically delivering a business plan verbally. A pitch typically takes the form of an entrepreneur or group of entrepreneurs presenting or describing their ideas to prospective investors. Regardless of the means chosen to pitch (there are mainly elevator pitch, video pitch, and business pitch), the aim is typically the same; describing a business opportunity with the intention of securing funding to develop the idea further

Are we guaranteed to receive money after this program?

Fundraising Program does not guarantee for entrepreneurs to be sure to get money. Pitching Opportunities in Cambodia and Crowdfunding Challenge are only opportunities of fundraising. Entrepreneurs get money when only when the judges are willing to invest their business.


How is the program different from other entrepreneur accelerators?

The program is very unique, because it aims to develop business capacity of entrepreneurs in Cambodia, and it helps Cambodian entrepreneurs get ready for raising fund by equipping them with knowledge, connecting them with mentors and giving them the actual opportunity to approach investors.

How long does the program last?

This program is for 7 months long from July 2018 to January 2019.

Does CJCC invest in the entrepreneurs?

CJCC does not invest or take any equity in the entrepreneurs.

Please explain more about the level of commitment required during the program.

Commitment of the full time mentoring program (3 months July – Sep 2018), and the time of Fundraising program (4 months Oct 2018 – Jan 2019) is required.

What happens to intellectual property rights during the Accelerator Program?

Your ideas remain yours – they belong to you and your team. If there is a need to transfer or manage Intellectual Property Rights, we will discuss that with you.

Would the participants’ ideas be protected?

The applicants’ wishes will be honored as much as possible. However, you should also be aware that there are many people who have similar ideas and that ideas that seem to be yours may appear in any other places in the world. So, we will not enter into a confidentiality agreement which treats your ideas as confidential information. In this Accelerator Program, we value your actions to realize and leverage your idea into a successful business, rather than the idea itself.

Will I retain the rights associated with my idea or prototype?

You will retain any IP rights associated with your startup and your prototype.
